Armed suspects arrested on N2 near uMhlanga

The suspects were attempting to evade arrest following a business robbery in the Eshowe area.

FIVE suspects were arrested after a high-speed chase on the N2 near uMhlanga on Saturday afternoon.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson, Tyron Powell, the suspects had earlier been involved in a business robbery in Eshowe.

“The suspects held up the staff members and stole cell phones to an estimated value of R100 000 and fled the scene in a Toyota Corolla. The information received was that the vehicle was travelling towards Durban. Our Special Operations Team was activated together with assistance from SAPS.

“The vehicle was spotted on the N2 South after uMhlanga and the teams proceeded to give chase. Our team and SAPS members were able to stop the vehicle and apprehend five suspects. One illegal firearm, a knife and some of the cell phones from the robbery were recovered. The suspects were arrested and taken to Durban North Police SAPS for further investigation,” Powell said.
