uMhlanga ward councillor collects care packs for frontline workers

Nicole Bollman is collecting items, including antibacterial wipes, energy bars and bubble bath, to create care packs for frontline workers.

AS the second Covid-19 wave sees a spike in infections, Ward 35 councillor, Nicole Bollman has launched a community project to assist the frontline workers who continue to lead the fight against the pandemic.

Launched on 1 January, the initiative has been dubbed the Ukunika project, after the isiZulu word, ukunika which means, ‘to give’.

“The Ukunika project stems from the desire of people in the north Durban area who are grateful and want to assist our frontline workers but lack any specific skills that could help police, paramedics or medical personnel. The next and most obvious decision was to then give something to those men and women who daily put their lives on the line and had done since the start of the South African Covid-19 lockdown, some nine months ago,” said Bollman.

Through the project, Bollman is collecting items, including antibacterial wipes, energy bars and bubble bath, to create care packs for frontline workers.

“These professionals are fatigued, have suffered the virus themselves, have lost colleagues and loved ones and really deserve to know they are appreciated and so we welcome and encourage our local north Durban community to get involved,” she said

Bollman shared this list on the Ukunika Facebook Page recently.
