The Domino Foundation uplifts local school

Leigh-Ann Stevens of The Domino Foundation said they have been working with the school to ensure the learners receive relief aid.

THE Zwakele Primary School in Amaoti was abuzz recently as Durban North based NPO, The Domino Foundation delivered toiletry bags filled with basic hygiene and body products. Through their Life Skills Programme, the foundation selected orphans and vulnerable learners in Grades 4-7 to receive the donations.

Leigh-Ann Stevens, leader of The Domino Foundation Life Skills Programme, said they have been working with the school to update the Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) list to ensure the learners receive necessary relief aid.

“Our priority is to identify child-headed households and ‘double orphans’- children who have lost both parents through death or abandonment. Next are the ‘single orphans’ who have lost one parent. We include child-headed households where the primary or only caregiver is 17 years or younger. We then consider pupils from households where no one has employment and check whether any one in the family has access to grants,” added Stevens.

The Domino Foundation youth worker, Nonhlanhla Majola, said the learners were thrilled with the donations.

“The learners really appreciated these proudly South African toiletry bags,” she said.
