New metal doors to increase security at La Lucia substation

Ward 36 councillor, Nicole Bollman said vagrants have been living at the substation.

NEW metal doors will be installed at a La Lucia substation on William Campbell to improve security.

Ward 35 councillor, Nicole Bollman said she visited the site on Friday and found signs that people had been living in the substation.

“There have been vagrants living there. The old wooden doors will be replaced with metal doors. This will help to deter copper cable theft and vagrancy.  It’s extremely unsafe for people to be living in there,” she said.

The doors will be installed urgently, said Bollman.

“I’ve met with senior officials from the electricity sub-station SS2505. They have advised that they will replace the existing doors with metal ones which should alleviate the problem. The doors should be completed within the next few days,” said Bollman.
