North Durban safe from dog thieves, say SAPS

There have been no cases of dog theft reported in Durban North or Greenwood Park.

A SOCIAL media post has warned dog owners to beware of criminals stealing dogs out of residential yards in KwaZulu-Natal.

While the post has caused a stir online, Durban North SAPS and Greenwood Park SAPS have not recorded any cases of animal theft in the north Durban area.

“There have been no cases of dog theft opened at the station,” said captain Jerome Slater, spokesperson for the Greenwood Park SAPS.

He added that members would be alerted of the post.

Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for the Durban North SAPS said he also did not receive any reports of dog theft in the area.

“School children in groups are walking down streets looking for dogs to steal. Adults are using children so that people won’t be suspicious. We are not asking you to treat all children with suspicion but if a group of children do not live on your street and they are hanging around please observe,” read the post.

Wagalot urged the community to report theft to the SPCA and police.
