Criminals target Briardene business in robbery

The incident took place on Roadhouse Crescent at around 10am on Sunday.

A BRIARDENE business was targeted by an armed gang on Sunday morning.

According to Blue Security’s Andreas Mathios, the incident took place on Roadhouse Crescent at around 10am.

“A Blue Security officer had just completed a response to an alarm activation in Roadhouse Crescent, Briardene, when he noticed a number of SAPS vehicles at a nearby business premises. Further investigations revealed that an armed robbery had occurred shortly before. According to the staff members, a group of approximately six suspects entered the premises under the pretext of wanting to buy goods,” he said.

“The gang suddenly produced firearms and demanded cash. When staff members informed them that they were not in possession of any safe keys the suspects robbed the employees of their cellphones and whatever cash they had on them. They also removed approximately six TVs and some microwave ovens from the store room and locked the two staff members in a back room before fleeing the store,” he said.

Mathios said a grey vehicle, with no number plates, was seen in the area just before the gang struck.

“No shots were fired during the incident and no-one was injured. Greenwood Park SAPS were present at the scene and investigations are continuing,” he said.
