A back-to-school boost with Durban North community project

There are three 'out-the-box' ways the community can get involved.

THE proverb, ‘it takes a village to raise a child,’ is echoed in the Preppies Box of Love project which aims to bring communities together to equip children with a box of stationery to see them through the school year and succeed in the classroom.

The project is an initiative of local stationery shop, Prepped 4 Prep which recently partnered with Redhill NPO, The Wellness Centre Trust (TWCT). Eloise Briggeman, founder of TWCT said they work closely with the Kenville community.

“I’m so grateful that Prepped 4 Prep is partnering with us because we have a heart to help the community, specifically in Kenville with all the children there who really are underprivileged. This is just another step in adding value to their lives and giving them a boost to continue with school and complete matric,” she said.

Caron Rademeyer of Prepped 4 Prep said the project aims to uplift those in need.

“We want to make a difference and support impoverished communities, especially through the Covid-19 pandemic as many have been affected in huge ways. Our Preppies Box of Love offers the opportunity for people to sponsor and contribute toward a project,” she said.

There are three ‘out-the-box’ ways the community can get involved.

“You can purchase an empty box for R25 and fill it with your own pre-loved stationery and we will give it to a child. Order your child’s stationery for 2021 through Prepped 4 Prep and you will receive this box with your order. Repack the box with your pre-loved stationery and return it to us. The third option is to pay R150 toward a pre-packed box of stationery and you can select a child from the list to donate it to. The back of the box is blank so people can write a message or special word of encouragement or draw a picture for the child so it’s personalised. Its a way to bring communities together,” explained Rademeyer.

Jessica Hills of the Preppies box of Love team added:”I think it’s really important for us as a community to show that we believe in these children. What better way to say we believe in a child than by supporting them in their schooling? Its a chance to say, ‘here’s your stationary for the year because we know you can do this.’ “
