Residents support Glenashley SANBS blood drive

As the country continues to emerge from the Covid-19 lockdown, the need for blood products is rapidly starting to increase.

THE Sri Sathya Sai Centre of Umhlanga hosted a successful blood drive in partnership with South African National Blood Service (SANBS) in Glenashley last weekend.

As the country continues to emerge from the Covid-19 lockdown, the need for blood products is rapidly starting to increase, said organiser of the blood drive, Kevan Moodley of the Sai Centre.

Despite the response from regular donors, who came forward earlier this year, the SANBS is experiencing dire blood shortages owing to the scarcity of mobile blood drive venues.

“We had a positive response to our blood drive with 30 donors donating on the day, surpassing our target. At this time we feel every donation makes a difference. I’d like to thank all those who helped give back on the day. We also call on all our donors who are due for donation to visit their nearest donor centre to boost the blood stocks that are critically low,” he said.
