Armed men rob Lothian Road business

According to Blue Security, the employee had to receive trauma counselling.

TWO armed suspects held up a Lothian Road business on Saturday morning.

According to Blue Security’s Andreas Mathios the armed men took an undisclosed amount of cash.

“The employee was held up at gunpoint by two armed suspects. They demanded cash and took the float from the till as well as a cash box from the drawer next to the till. Cash was also taken from a till at a separate internal-attached business. Greenwood Park SAPS attended the scene and crisis counselling was also requested for the staff member,” he said.

Mathios warned companies (including those in business parks) to be aware of a gang committing crimes using a white Toyota Corolla as a getaway vehicle following a string of other incidents in the area.

“Another incident at a business park in Intersite Avenue in Springfield Park on Saturday evening saw suspects attempt to break into a business within a complex. A Blue Security armed-response officer responded to an alarm activation just after 5.30pm and discovered a fire-escape door had been forced open at the rear of the premises,” he said.

“They also forced open a burglar gate and made their way along a back passage to the first floor where they attempted to gain entry via the rear door to the offices. Entry was unsuccessful as the security gate was still intact. The security guard had admitted the Toyota Corolla to the premises believing that they were customers of a business onsite,” he said.
