Four arrested after shootout, high-speed chase ends in Greenwood Park

It is believed the suspects are linked to criminal cases in Durban North and Greenwood Park.

FOUR suspects were arrested on Thursday last week on charges of attempted murder after a shootout and high-speed chase ended in Greenwood Park.

Captain Nqobile Gwala, KZN SAPS spokesperson, said a detective from the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation was conducting investigation duties on the M25 when he received information that a patrol vehicle was chasing a white VW Polo with no registration plates.

“The police officer joined the N2 southbound and noticed the same vehicle and turned on his blue lights and siren in order to stop the vehicle. A chase ensued and one of the occupants fired several shots towards the police.

“A shootout ensued forcing the suspects to make a u-turn and flee towards Queen Nandi Drive south bound. The officer with the assistance of Greenwood Park police and security companies continued chasing the suspects until they reached Greenwood Park where four suspects were arrested. One of the suspects attempted to bribe the police officers and was charged with bribery,” Gwala explained.

The four suspects, aged between 25 and 28 years, were charged with attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen property and bribery.

They are due to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court this week.

According to Gwala it is suspected the gang is linked to criminal cases in Durban North and Greenwood Park.
