WATCH: Footage emerges of high-speed chase along Umhlanga Rocks Drive

The suspects have been charged with attempted theft of motor vehicle and may face additional charges as the police investigation progresses.

A VIDEO showing a high-speed car chase between officers from Marshall Security and suspects involved in an attempted car theft in eMdloti has emerged. The high-speed chase took place on Umhlanga Rocks Drive on Monday and the suspects’ arrest led to police finding a stolen peacock in the boot of the vehicle.

In the video, the officers pursue a maroon Toyota Etios until the driver of the vehicle crashes the car opposite the BP service station on the busy road.

The suspects then abandon the vehicle and attempt to get away.

Marshall Security’s Tyron Powell said the chase began after the suspects were spotted attempting to steal a car in eMdloti.

“After the failed attempt a description of the vehicle was sent out and around 45 minutes later the same vehicle was spotted in uMhlanga by security officers from Marshall Security. When the suspects realised they were being followed, they sped off which then led to a high- speed chase on Umhlanga Rocks Drive. As the suspects neared the service station they lost control of the vehicle and rolled down an embankment. The suspects then attempted to flee on foot but were soon apprehended,” he said.

A third suspect linked to the same gang evaded arrest and according to Powell was in another vehicle, which had been stolen in uMhlanga this morning.

The suspects have been charged with attempted theft of motor vehicle and may face additional charges as the police investigation progresses.
