WATCH: Footage emerges of uMhlanga suspect stealing peacock

The peacock, whose name is Hendry, is due to be reunited with his owner later this week.

THE peacock recovered in the boot of an overturned vehicle on Umhlanga Rocks Drive on Monday (26 October) morning was stolen from a home in Northdene just hours before.

Two suspects were also arrested for their involvement in an attempted car theft in eMdloti in the same incident which baffled security personnel and police officers who found car break-in implements as well as the peacock in the boot.

“We couldn’t believe what we saw in the the footage and why anyone would steal him. When we saw the news about a peacock being found in the boot of the car, we immediately got in touch with the lady from Broken Wings,” Saib said.

Marshall Security’s Tyron Powell, who was involved in the high-speed chase that led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the peacock, said he also found several tools used to break into vehicles in the overturned vehicle.

The suspects are facing charges of attempted vehicle theft and may face additional charges should police link them to other crimes in the area.
