Durban North cyclist to pedal for CANSA

Besides raising awareness, the resident is also planning on fundraising for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) with her 40km ride around Hillcrest.

DURBAN North resident, Cheryl-Lee Lambert is planning on riding for a cause later this month to raise breast cancer awareness.

The Cycle Specialist club member is also planning on fundraising for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) with her 40km ride around Hillcrest.

Lambert said the idea came to her after successful women’s only rides which she started in August.

“The idea came to me at the time to make a specific ride, involving mainly women from different clubs, in October to raise breast cancer awareness, as well as trying to raise funds for CANSA. I would like to raise more than R10 000 for the association. We’ve limited this ride to 25 women only (due to Covid-19 regulations), and to accommodate everyone, we will be keeping the 40km ride flat, so there won’t be too many hills.

“What is lovely is that two ladies from our club have offered to shave their hair off to show solidarity with cancer survivors. I’ve also begun fundraising efforts and have so far raised more than R1 400. I’m also selling sleeves, socks, buffs and sweatpants on behalf of the association. I have the stock and people pay directly to CANSA so that all those proceeds go to them,” she said.

Lambert said she hoped to host another charity ride next month and plans on inviting other clubs to join in.

The ride will take place on Saturday, 31 October at Volvo Hillcrest, starting at 6am.
