Cameras offer bird’s eye view of uMhlanga surf

The cameras offer a live, real-time, and free look at surf conditions on the two local beaches.

TWO newly installed cameras along the uMhlanga coastline now means surfers don’t have to set foot on the beach to find out whether the surf’s up.

Thanks to uMhlanga couple, Lloyd and Bev Letard and uMhlanga resident, Tim Lehman, the cameras situated at Durban View Beach and Bronze Beach offers a bird’s eye view of conditions along the coastline.

The cameras offer a live, real-time, and free look at surf conditions on the two local beaches.

“My son Dale, who is a computer fundi actually suggested putting up cameras. As a regular surfer he said by installing the cameras it would offer himself a view of the conditions before travelling down to the beach. A mate of mine, Tim Lehman, was the first to put up his Nest outdoor cam at Bronze Beach and we followed suit from our flat on Durban View Beach.

“It’s such an invaluable resource and offers a bird’s eye view to water sport enthusiasts. I know, especially for the surfers from the upper highway area, this will help so that they don’t have to travel all the way down to the beach just to suss out the conditions. The feedback we’ve had from those who’ve visited the site has been fantastic and we’ve even had views from spots overseas, including the UK and Australia,” Letard explained.

He added the free public service website has already had 20 000 views from around the country and the world.
