Planned water outage for several areas in north Durban

The unit will be undertaking a planned shutdown in Pridley Road which will affect the water supply from Durban Heights treatment works into the Northern Aqueduct system.

SEVERAL areas in the north of Durban will be affected by a planned water shutdown for 24 hours by the eThekwini Municipality’s Water and Sanitation Unit.

The unit will be undertaking a planned shutdown in Pridley Road located in Reservoir Hills.

This will affect the water supply from Durban Heights treatment works into the Northern Aqueduct system.

“The objective of the shutdown is to replace an 800mm butterfly Valve at Pridley Road on the existing northern aqueduct pipeline, the duration of the shutdown is estimated to be 24 hours when there will be no system input volume to all the reservoirs supplied off the Northern aqueduct. All reservoirs will be filled to top water level prior shutdown date,” the City said in a statement.

The shutdown will commence on 27 October at 5am until 28 October at 5am.

The following areas might experience water outages, poor pressure or intermittent supply during the shutdown period: Mount Edgecombe, Sea Cow Lake, Aloes, Avoca, Redhill, Effingham, Umgeni Park, Riverhorse Valley, Umhlanga, Durban North, Sunningdale, La Lucia, Gateway, Glenashley, Beachway, Springfield Park, Cornubia, Newlands, Phoenix, Parts of Ntuzuma, KwaMashu, Inanda, Mount View and Trenance.

“Consumers are urged to use water sparingly during this period. All affected reservoirs will be filled to top water level to prevent water interruptions during the shutdown period.
