E-hailing driver hijacked at knifepoint in uMhlanga

The suspects, who are still at large, made off with the driver's silver Toyota Etios.

AN e-hailing driver was hijacked and robbed of his valuables by two suspects on Cordia Crescent in uMhlanga on Sunday evening. 

The incident occurred at about 11.45pm confirmed Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for the Durban North SAPS.

“It is alleged the driver was approached by two suspects on Sandile Thusi Road who requested a lift to Cordia Crescent. When the driver arrived at the drop-off point he was confronted by the suspects.

“One of the suspects then placed knife a his throat while the second suspect removed his cellphone and wallet which contained about R400 in cash. The suspects then pushed the driver out of the vehicle and they drove off. Thankfully the victim wasn’t injured in the carjacking,” he said.

Deokaran added police are still trying to trace the vehicle, a 2017 silver Toyota Etios.

He added police were also viewing CCTV footage in the area in an attempt to identify the suspects.
