Cosatu strike set to bring Durban roads to a standstill
Thousands of Cosatu-affiliated workers are expected to have a motorcade across Durban.
Members of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) are set to bring Durban roads to a standstill with a motorcade on Wednesday for their national strike.
Edwin Mkhize, Cosatu’s Provincial Secretary said they are expecting thousands of their members from across KwaZulu-Natal to join the strike.

All members are set to meet at Curries Fountain at 11am.
There will be a convoy from Curries Fountain to George Campbell High School in North Beach.
Then a march from North Beach to the South African Police Service headquarters on Bram Fischer Road.
Mkhize said due to Covid-19 regulations there won’t be any buses or taxis so members will be arriving with their own vehicles.
They are expecting people to come from Pinetown, Ixopo, Pietermaritzburg, Mariannhill, Durban Central, Mandeni, Richards Bay, Port Shepstone and other KZN areas.

The strike comes amid the ongoing dispute between the union and government.
Cosatu leaders are calling for salary increases for all 1.3 million government employees and for investigations into Covid-19 tender corruption.

“Acts of sustained civil disobedience are paramount at this time because sitting down and doing nothing will mean that we accept the death sentence that is handed to us by the political and business power structure that is mismanaging the economy and attacking workers’ rights,” said Cosatu in a statement.
