Umhlanga Rocks on with Rocks of Hope

An umhlanga school hopes to inspire others during the pandemic by joining the Umhlanga Rocks movement.

LEARNERS and staff from Hamptons Primary School got in on the action of ‘Umhlanga Rocks On’. They colourfully painted rocks and placed them on the uMhlanga promenade.

Lariaan Claassens, head of operations for Meyer Education Group said the idea was inspired by Sonia de Fleuriot’s initiative, called ‘Umhlanga Rocks On’.

“We decided to join the initiative and started an initiative called ‘Rocks of Hope’. The staff and students painted the rocks with positive messages and thoughts and then placed them on the uMhlanga Promenade,” she said.

“This was an entire school initiative. I, as the head of operations together with my family, the principal and her entire staff, launched it to the school. Learners in all the grades have participated and continue to bring in more rocks. We hope to let this initiative continue for a while,” continued Classens.

The school hopes to inspire others during the pandemic.

“The children have absolutely loved it and it meant a lot to our staff as well. We have had some positive social media responses from people in the community who we do not even know. The community has even been sharing our posts and congratulating us on the effort,” said Classens.
