VIDEO: Several water meters vandalised in Durban North

Cases of vandalism have also been reported in Westville and Morningside.

SEVERAL residents in north Durban were left without water last week after water meters were seemingly vandalised by unknown person/s.

Northglen News is aware of eight residents living in different parts of Durban North who were affected by the wanton vandalism.

Residents on Eastview Road, Church Road, High Ridge Road and Adelaide Tambo Drive (Kensington) were among those affected.

One of the residents affected by the vandalism was Church Road resident, Michelle Nel.

Acting ward 36 councillor, Shontel de Boer, said she could not understand why the water meters had been vandalised.

“Several homes were affected last week and we are still trying to figure out why this has happened. Thousands of litres of water were wasted because of this blatant act of vandalism. We know the cutting of the meters was not due to theft because none of them actually had any parts stolen. All the cases I’m aware of had the plastic inlet piping feeding the meters cut.

“Residents also reported seeing a white bakkie at some of the cases recorded but we have had no confirmation if those in the vehicle were responsible for this. I have reported the incidents to the City’s water and sanitation department and I am currently awaiting feedback. I’ve also heard of several incidents occurring in Morningside and Westville,” she said.
