Woman found dead in Rinaldo Road bush

The gruesome discovery has left the Malacca Road community reeling in shock.

THE body of a young woman was found in the bushes of the Rinaldo Road park on Saturday afternoon.

Eye witness, Arianne Hayes-Hill said the woman was found with her pants removed, face down in the dirt.

“It appears she was murdered. It is questionable whether she was raped because her clothing was removed, although, she was still wearing a vest and a jacket had been placed over her body,” she said.

Hayes-Hill, founder of the Seed Fund, who works closely with the Malacca Road community, said she received the call at 4.30pm on Saturday afternoon.

“The community was asking me to call an ambulance because they had found the body in the bushes. I went down there straight away and spoke to the man who found the body. He said he walked into the bushes to find a place to go to the toilet when he saw the body. He didn’t know if the woman was dead or not, so he threw a stick nearby to see if she would move,” she said.

The gruesome discovery has left the Malacca Road community reeling in shock, said Hayes-Hill.

“The women in the community are terrified and the men immediately gathered around yesterday, with one man electing to open a case at the SAPS,” she said.

According to Hayes-Hill, Greenwood Park SAPS arrived on the scene to investigate at 6.30pm.

Provincial Spokesperson for the SAPS, Captain Nqobile Gwala said Greenwood Park SAPS are investigating a case of murder.

“It is alleged on 29 August, at Rinaldo Park in Redhill, a body of a 23-year-old woman was found with injuries and bruises on the body. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated,” she said.
