Sunningdale pothole is a widening concern

According to Sunningdale resident, Tyron Powell, the pothole, had been reported prior to the nationwide lockdown.

RESIDENTS of Sunningdale have bemoaned the state of a large pothole on Village Way, which is in need of serious repair.

Last week the Northglen News met with local resident, Tyron Powell, who said the pothole had been reported several times by the Sunningdale Home Owners Association (SHOA) as well as residents on Village Way, however there had been no repairs or response from the City’s Roads and Stormwater Department responsible for filling the hole.

According to Powell, the pothole, had been reported prior to the nationwide lockdown.

He said heavy rains and drivers not seeing the widening pothole had made the problem worse in the last few months.

“This road had been rehabilitated several times and the sidewalks had also been redone on this particular section going down Village Way. However, a burst pipe had caused the section to widen initially before it was filled in with sand. As time has gone by the pothole has widened and has caused damage to motorists who are unaware of the pothole until the last moment.

“Often vehicles going down the road either have to swerve into the oncoming lane or take a wide berth around it. We’ve noticed with quite a few drivers who aren’t familiar with the area tend to hit the hole at high speed. What makes it trickier is there are two large trees creating shade which makes it virtually impossible to spot the hole until the very last minute,” he said.
