Virginia Bush clean up a success

The clean up was organised by Friends of Virginia Bush and Riverside Trails.

NORTH Durban residents came out in their numbers to pick up litter at the Virginia Bush Nature Reserve off Danville Avenue recently. The clean up was organised by Friends of Virginia Bush and Riverside Trails, said Dave Ward who works closely with both groups.

“It was a massive success. We filled a large municipal truck with refuse bags full of litter from the clean up.We saw between 30 to 40 volunteers joining in on the day,” said Ward.

He added that the cleanups will be organised regularly to keep the area litter-free.

“We will be organising another clean up soon,” said Ward.

Denbeigh Van der Merwe from Riverside Trails said:”This is our Virginia Bush, that we love so much, so we are trying to clean it up.”

uMhlanga resident, Cilla Rose was among the volunteers working to clean up the area.

“I just wanted to help the community,” she said.

Michelle Shelley, from Virginia also joined in, along with her family.

“It’s great to get out to help in some way,” she said.
