Water restored in north Durban after massive repair job

Due to the size of the pipes that were repaired and the extended time period of the water outage, it will take time for reservoirs to reach full capacity.

THE water outage, which affected parts of northern Durban after a pipe burst on the main bulk water trunk, has been resolved.

Areas affected by the outage included Virginia, Glenashley, La Lucia and uMhlanga.

Ward councillor for the area, Nicole Bollman, said the outage started on Wednesday.

“It’s a water outage that has affected the whole of the northern region from Durban North and uMhlanga to Verulam and Phoenix.  The repairs have been done and the water should start coming back by about 2pm,” she said on Thursday.

Due to the size of the pipes that were repaired and the extended time period of the water outage, she said it would take time for the reservoirs to reach full capacity.

“During the repairs, there was a further delay caused by a faulty valve which was rectified around lunchtime. Water was restored to the lower parts of Durban North by Thursday evening. As soon as the reservoirs start filling, the higher levels will have water replenished. It was quite a sizable job that the water department was dealing with,” said Bollman.
