Glenashley SPAR donates weekly food hampers

Store manager, James Mudzviti said caring for others is one of the core values at the branch.

PRINCESS Mcineka, who volunteers at the Sizokula community centre in Inanda has been overwhelmed by regular food hampers donations from the KWIKSPAR Glenore in Glenashley.

Mcineka, a butchery supervisor, who has worked at the store for 12 years, said she was touched by the kindness and generosity of the SPAR management and surrounding community.

“I just want to say thank you to the uMhlanga community as well. Sometimes they ask about Sizokula and offer support as well,” she said.

Store manager, James Mudzviti said caring for others is one of the core values at the branch.

“We think it’s our responsibility as a store to give back to the community. We send our driver on a daily basis to deliver food. We feel obliged to do it because we love people. Helping the community is one of our values that we stand for,” he added. The store donates a variety of food from their fruit and vegetable section, butchery and bakery as well as household items such as toilet paper.”

Sizokula serves underprivileged children, some have no parents, some can’t afford to go to school, they don’t have anything to eat. They come on a daily basis to get something to eat. Princess’ family took it upon themselves to take care of the community and they built the shelter.

Princess approached the company and we decided to support her on a daily basis,” he said.

Store founder, Paul Jason credited Mcineka for starting the initiative.

“The most staggering thing about this is that it was initiated by our staff and particularly by Princess. It was an opportunity that the staff were really engaging with. In the current landscape, that is quite extraordinary. It’s wonderful to be able to contribute in any way we can. I’ve been out to the Inanda community and to say these people are struggling, would be the understatement of the year. The fact that we are able to do what we do and as a by-product, impact a community of people that need it the most, is great,” he said.
