Volunteers needed for Virginia Bush clean-up

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and a lack of maintenance, the lower area of the reserve has been neglected and is need of a clean-up said organisers.

THE Friends of Virginia Bush – Durban North has urged volunteers to lend a hand to help clean the lower area of the Virginia Bush Nature Reserve on Saturday, 18 July.

Local resident, Dave Ward said the clean-up will comply with the Covid-19 regulations and residents will maintain social distancing throughout the morning.

“Due to the pandemic and a lack of maintenance, the lower area of the reserve has been neglected and is full of plastic and rubbish. We are urging residents, if they are available to come out and help for an hour,” he said.

The clean-up begins at 8.30am and participants are urged to meet in the Danville Park parking area off Danville Avenue.

“If residents are willing we help all they need to bring is a couple of black bags and gloves and cheery face. The middle and top area of the reserve are still locked and not accessible hence the reason we are doing lower bush for the time being. We have been told that all three areas will be open and functional in the next week,” Ward said.

He added that earlier this week volunteers had replaced all the broken benches as well – so things are coming together slowly. Watch this space for more exciting developments in the next few weeks
