“The suspects, using a white Mazda SUV, had targeted a Virginia family who were having a braai on Saturday evening just after 7pm. Three suspects who were armed with handguns managed to gain access into the property and held them up at gunpoint. The gang ransacked the home and made off with several items including a laptop, cell phones, cash and jewellery.

“Acting on information the suspects were traced to a section in Inanda just two hours after the robbery. Police and officers from our Special Operations Team (SOT) surrounded the home the suspects were hiding out in when a shootout ensued. One suspect was wounded in the exchange of gunfire. A second suspect was then arrested in a foot chase through the homes in the area,” Powell said.

According to Powell the three remaining suspects fled the scene in their getaway vehicle and are still at large.

It is understood the stolen items have not yet been recovered.
