Casinos to resume trading under strict conditions

While casinos across the country reopen on Monday, the condition set out in the regulations says that it may do so on condition that only 50 per cent of the available floor space is occupied.

CASINOS can start operating again, albeit under strict conditions, after being closed for three months in the Covid-19 enforced lockdown.

This comes after Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, last week signed and gazetted an amendment to the regulations for the advanced Covid-19 alert level 3 lockdown.

While casinos across the country reopen on Monday, the condition set out in the regulations says that it may do so on condition that only 50 per cent of the available floor space is occupied.

Other changes will see casinos keeping a daily record of the full details of all employees, delivery agents and customers.

Some of the other changes include

  • Conduct a screening questionnaire for every guest in the format of form issued with the directions and take precautionary measures to protect that guest and others in the premises.
  • No person shall be allowed onto the premises if that person is not wearing a cloth mask, or homemade item that covers the nose and mouth.
  • Guests must wear masks at all times except when eating or drinking and must sanitise guests before entering the premises.
  • Maintain at least a distance of one and a half metres between open machines.
  • Sanitise all machines and other surfaces touched after every use, or provide guests with sanitisers to sanitise the surface that they will occupy and touch.
