Ward 35 councillor hopes to set up residents’ association

Nicole Bollman said the purpose of setting up a residents' association is to deal with municipal issues with one voice.

LOCAL councillor Nicole Bollman is hoping to launch a Ward 35 Residents’ Association. The Durban North resident said the purpose of the association was to deal with municipal issues with one voice.

“The idea was to have one voice, one association that represents the residents of ward 35. In recent weeks I’ve seen similar issues arise across the ward from Virginia to uMhlanga so I feel it’s necessary to form the residents’ association to hold the city accountable for its services. The association is open to any residents that fall within the boundaries of the ward.

“The reason I wanted to call it a residents’ association and not ratepayers association is because I didn’t want it to be exclusionary. There are a number of people who rent within the boundaries of ward 35 and I wanted them all involved. The first thing I plan do, from an advisory level is to form a committee and then lay out the roles and functions of those within in,” she said.
