Round Table supports local NPO with winter campaign

300 blankets were donated to local NPO, Matthew 25:35.

THE Umhlanga Round Table No 155 recently handed over 300 blankets to local NPO, Matthew 25:35 as part of its Winter Knights campaign.

The NPO and ministry has an outreach programme that helps communities across the province affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Yvonne Halley of the ministry, their objective since the lockdown had been announced, they were assisting the City and communities adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

“Our ministry operates from Glenashley and Ballito and thanks to the support from the community we have been supporting the Malacca Road Informal Settlement, the Briardene Informal Settlement, a settlement in Cornubia and a soup kitchen in Hillary. During this lockdown we’ve seen the community come together and we are again appealing to anyone who can help to donate non-perishable food items. We have vehicles and permits and are willing to collect,” she said.

Speaking on the donation to Matthew 25:35, Chris Swartz of the Round Table said he was blown away by the support of the community.

“What was great was the Round Tables of Durban, uMhlanga and Ballito jointly donated 300 blankets for distribution to the needy and vulnerable within the greater Durban and Ballito area. The aim of our Winter Knights campaign is to relieve the effects of the cold this winter by collecting donations in aid of those less fortunate in the form of clothes, blankets, non-perishable food items and cash donations. Should you wish to support the Winter Knights campaign by donation of cash, blankets and non-perishable food stuff,” Swartz said.
