Durban North SAPS station closed until Monday

Officers based at the station are currently being screened and tested and the station is due to reopen on Monday.

THE Durban North Police station on Norrie Avenue will remain closed until Monday after an officer from the Durban North Cluster Office tested positive for Covid-19.

On Monday afternoon the station was closed as a precautionary measure and was due to be reopened today, however police management said that could not happen until officers at the station were screened and tested.

Chairman of the Durban North/Umhlanga CPF, Haden Searles said despite this the duties of the station had not been compromised.

“The station will reopen once all testing and screening processes are complete. There is a security guard on duty at the station informing residents to visit the satellite station. The station is safe and has been thoroughly deep-cleaned. That includes all touch points, prison cells and surfaces. I’m also urging residents to call 10111 in need of assistance if they cannot get in contact with the satellite station,” he said.

Searles has also encouraged members of the public to report to the uMhlanga SAPS satellite station to report crimes while those needing permits or certifying documents are encouraged to visit either the Greenwood Park police station or Durban Central station.

The Umhlanga Satellite Station is situated on Autumn Drive.
