Six arrested for possession of copper cables near Mount Edgecombe

The suspects are expected to appear to appear in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

POLICE officers from the Phoenix police station arrested six men at Campbells Town area near Mount Edgecombe on Thursday morning for being in possession of stolen copper cables.

Officers were on a routine patrol when they noticed six men loading items into two vehicles.

Colonel Thembeka Mbele, SAPS provincial spokesperson said officers searched the vehicles which were parked parallel to each other.

“Police discovered two metre thick cables and machine cutters. The men were questioned as to where they got these cables but they failed to give satisfactory explanation. All six suspects aged between 25 and 36 were placed under arrest for possession of a suspected stolen property.

“The two vehicles were also seized by police for further investigation. The recovered cables were identified by Telkom. The suspects are expected to appear to appear in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court on Friday,” she said.

“Police operations are in full swing. The community members should expect more police visibility,” said KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula.
