Local residents welcome easing of restrictions for exercise

Under the current regulation, people can cycle, run and walk within their neighbourhood of about a five kilometre radius between 6am and 9am.

ATHLETES are breathing a sigh of relief as their lives slowly returned to some form of normalcy amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

From May 1, the country kicked off level 4 Covid-19 lockdown regulations, which saw approximately 1.5 million workers return to work as well as fitness junkies, who resumed training regimens, albeit under strict conditions.

Under the current regulation, people can cycle, run and walk within their neighbourhood of about a five kilometre radius between 6am and 9am.

One of the residents ecstatic with the easing of restrictions is Sunningdale resident, Jody Taylor.

“Even if it was just an hour the government had given us I would’ve taken it. It’s been great being able to run on the road again and initially there was an adjustment period, running with the mask but now I’m starting to slowly get back into a rhythm. I’ve seen more people out exercising during the allocated times but we are extremely fortunate because there’s so many roads in the area that residents can choose to run, cycle or walk through.

“Since the restrictions have been eased I’ve been averaging 12 to 16 kilometres within the five kilometre radius and I’ll slowly increase that to do around 30 kilometres a day. I’ve found that running with a mask has also added another dimension to working out, I use a buff and while it is an extra layer to breathe through, I feel it will only benefit us in the long run,” he said.

Taylor said his only suggestion to government would be to add another time slot for those unable to workout in the mornings.
