Two arrested for theft of power tools in La Lucia

The tools had been stolen in February from a construction site in the La Lucia area.

POWER tools and construction equipment to the value of R40 000 were recovered recently by members of Durban North police station. The tools had been stolen in February from a construction site in the La Lucia area, added Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station.

Two people were also arrested in connection with the theft case.

“The original theft occurred at the end of February. Our officers viewed CCTV footage of the crime and were able to pick up and circulate the photo of the suspect to patrol units. The same suspect was spotted shortly before the nationwide lockdown by workers at the construction site and they immediately alerted the station. The suspect admitted that he had stolen the items and led them to the second suspect who worked as a petrol attendant in the area.

The second suspect was charged with being in possession of goods suspected of being stolen,” he said.

Deokaran also praised the work of all those involved in the arrests and recovery.

“The officers, W/O Nthuthuko Mkhize, W/O Fabian Chetty and Sergeant Nompucko Mtolo through their investigations were able to make the arrests and recover the items stolen. This is a tremendous success for the station and the station commander commends the officers involved for their outstanding police work,” Deokaran explained.
