POTHOLES pooled with murky water and a road frequently flooded – this is a struggle faced daily by residents and motorists who use Sea Cow Lake Road just before it intersects with Chris Hani Road (North Coast Road).
The leak has been an ongoing issue for the last 18 months said ward councillor Bobby Maharajh.
“There is usually traffic along the road because motorists have to slow right down to drive over the badly damaged road,” he said.
As frustration builds, some residents have even taken the matter into their own hands.
“There were a few residents who got so fed up that they tried to fix the road themselves,” he said.

Treating the cause of the problem is of paramount importance said Maharajh.
He said he has repeatedly contacted the department of water and sanitation and while they did send a team out, the problem has not been properly resolved.
“Originally there was a nasty smell which suggested that it was sewer. After awhile the smell disappeared and clear water appeared. I think that there is an underground blockage which is pushing the water upwards and through the manholes. A lengthy patch of the road should be dug up, the problem attended to and the road resurfaced,” he said.
Spokesperson for the eThekwini Municipality, Msawakhe Mayisela said the matter would be addressed. ”
A blockage crew has been assigned to attend to the fault,” he said.
