Community rally around Durban North police station

This comes after an appeal was made for various items, including hand sanitisers, soap, face shields and masks to help protect members of the station.

DURBAN North/Umhlanga CPF has thanked the community for rallying around the Durban North police station. This comes after an appeal was made for various items, including hand sanitisers, soap, face shields and masks to help protect members of the station.

According to chairman of the CPF, Haden Searles, the Covid-19 outbreak meant many of the stations’ officers were without essential items to protect themselves.

“Many of the frontline members required surgical gloves, masks and hand sanitisers and cleaning materials. We put out an appeal to residents and those who were willing to help because it is critical to protect members of the station. Unfortunately the station is unable to procure the items and anything would help,” Searles said.

Ward councillor, Nicole Bollman, said she was blown away by the support from the community.

“Both Haden and myself met with the station commander to discuss how we could help. The community’s response to our appeal has been fantastic and we’ve already been able to provide all the officials within the station with hand sanitisers and various other items.

“Residents have also donated financially to help the cause. We would like to thank all those who have contributed and those interested in helping out should visit the Durban North/uMhlanga CPF Facebook page for more information,” Bollman said.
