Durban SPCA calls for donations to continue work during Covid-19 lockdown

The Durban & Coast SPCA inspectorate will respond to animal related emergencies or rescues during the 21-day lockdown.

WITH South Africa officially in lockdown, those dedicated to caring for animals in need are continuing business as usual.

Among those keeping their doors open is the Durban & Coast Society for the  Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), which was deemed to be an essential service.

The organisation appealed to the public to continue their financial support during this trying time.

“If anyone can assist with any donations towards supplies for this team, it would be most appreciated. We need your support now more than ever during this difficult time, in order to keep our services running,” said Tanya Fleischer, SPCA marketing manager.

She said all the animals already at the Durban & Coast SPCA will be taken care of, as usual, during the lockdown.

“We have a dedicated team of nine individuals who will be living at our SPCA during lockdown to ensure the well-being of the animals in our care and to assist with emergencies,” she said.

While animal care continues, all sterilisations and other non-essential surgeries have been postponed and will be rescheduled after the lockdown.

The SPCA’s veterinary services will be available for emergencies only.

“Our inspectorate will still respond to animal related emergencies or rescues. Our dog boarding facilities will be unavailable during this period,” said Fleischer.
