Mount Edgecombe family make milestone 300th blood donation

Since the beginning of the year, the SANBS said blood stocks are at the five days cover mark and donations are always needed.

THE Davis family of Mount Edgecombe made a milestone 300th (collectively) blood donation to the Durban North blood donor clinic recently heeding the call by the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) who are in need of donations.

Since the beginning of the year, the SANBS said blood stocks are at the five days cover mark and donations are always needed.

Geoffrey Davis (68), and his sons John (34) and Ant (25), who are long-time supporters of the SANBS said they hoped to inspire others to donate blood to save lives.

“I started donating blood in my 20s and I haven’t looked back since,” Geoffrey explained. “I’m incredibly proud of my sons who have been a big part of this journey. For us the number of times we donate blood doesn’t matter, it’s more about putting people who are in need of it first. Personally I will continue donating blood for as long as I’m able to,” he said.

His eldest son, John, revealed his reason for his first-ever donation.

“The first time I donated blood was to get out of a Maths test,” he laughed. “In all seriousness, my dad has inspired us to become regular donors and we are incredibly blessed to have been able to donate together as a family. My brother and I also feel if you are in a position to help you should do.”

Ant said he hoped to pass down a similar message to his children one day.

“I think everyone has a part to play. It really doesn’t take a lot of time and every drop of blood counts,” he said.
