CROW continues work amidst Covid-19 concerns

Though the virus is thought to have come from the consumption of wildlife, CROW animals won't put you at risk.

WHILE community gatherings and events are being cancelled in response to Covid-19 concerns, the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) will continue normal operations. They are also dispelling fears that people can catch the deadly virus from animals.

Alex Kögl, marketing and communications officer for CROW, said there is no need to avoid animals during the outbreak.

“As an organisation that works with animals, and with so much fear and panic spreading around, we’d just like to remind the public that you cannot get the virus from an animal in South Africa and you cannot transmit the virus to an animal either. So it is completely safe to be around animals,” she said.

“We are taking all measures to sterilise and sanitise our centre to create a safe environment for both staff and animals,” she added.

It’s business as usual at  CROW as they continue their work feeding, treating and taking care of over 300 injured and orphaned animals said Kögl.

“With many businesses on lockdown and few people venturing out, we ask that you continue to support us and come through with any deliveries of injured, displaced or orphaned animals as well as donations. They need us now more than ever,” she added.

While they are still fully operational, CROW relies on donations and volunteers to continue their work.

As a consequence of the virus and our borders closing, we’ve lost all of our international volunteers whose financial contributions we heavily rely on. Please consider donating to CROW today to get us through this tough time. We are completely reliant on the support of the public and the community around us and now is the time to keep going and help those voiceless animals who cannot help themselves,” said Kögl.
