Durban Nedbank employee identified as fellow traveller of SA’s first Coronavirus patient
Nedbank has reassured the public that the potentially infected staff member did not come into contact with 'clients or third parties'.
NORTHGLEN NEWS has learned that one of the ten people who travelled from Italy to South Africa with the Hilton man who tested positive for the Coronavirus was a bank employee who had attended two meetings in and around Durban since his return – one was in the Durban CBD and another at a branch in Pinetown.
Another man, identified as a resident of the Mount Edgecombe Country Estate, north of Durban, has also been confirmed as one of the individuals who had traveled with the Hilton man.

“Nedbank can confirm that a Durban-based staff member was part of the group of people who arrived from Italy on 1 March 2020 where one of the members of the group subsequently tested positive for Coronavirus or Covid-19,” said Trevor Adams, Nedbank Chief Risk Officer.
“The Durban-based employee has been self-quarantined and been tested for the coronavirus and is awaiting results in order to determine if the employee is positive or not,” added Adams.
He confirmed that the potentially affected employee attended the meetings on 2 March at the Pine Walk branch and the Nedbank’s Durban Kingsmead Campus conference centre.

“Staff that have come into contact with the potentially affected employee on 2 March 2020 have already been contacted and placed in self quarantine.”
Adams said the individuals would be tested before they would be cleared from the quarantine and allowed to return to work.
He reassured the community that the potentially infected staff member did not come into contact with ‘clients or third parties’.
“The physical areas the potentially affected staff member came into contact with were isolated and have already been deep cleaned as a precautionary measure. The deep clean kills pathogens or bacteria in the air and on surfaces and the building is safe for occupation 15 minutes after it has been applied.”
