Shaun Ryley resigns as north Durban ward councillor

Ryley's resignation also sees him step down as a member of the DA KZN Provincial Management Committee – and by extension the Provincial Executive Committee, and ADAC Representative for the North Durban Constituency.

SHAUN Ryley has announced his resignation as Ward 36 councillor as of Sunday, 1 March. In his letter of resignation to the Democratic Alliance, Ryley said his resignation comes as a result of a change in personal circumstances involving his family life.

This he said, would make it impossible for him to ‘fulfil the duties and responsibilities incumbent upon a ward councillor.’

Ryley’s resignation also sees him step down as a member of the DA KZN Provincial Management Committee – and by extension the Provincial Executive Committee, and ADAC Representative for the North Durban Constituency.

“It has been an honour and privilege to serve the residents of Ward 36. The past five and a half years have been nothing short of incredible. I have grown immensely as an individual, as well as a constituent part of the remarkable machine that is the Democratic Alliance. I have learnt many valuable lessons that will stand me in good stead for whatever path lies ahead in my professional career.

“I want to express my sincerest appreciation to the DA eThekwini caucus whose members have been my colleagues, teachers, mentors but most importantly, friends. This body has been and remains a formidable voice in protecting and improving our great city and I am privileged to have been a part of such an extraordinary team. I would like to convey my sincere thanks to the residents of Durban North for twice putting their trust in me – on 2 July 2014 and 3 August 2016. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as your representative in the eThekwini Municipal Council,” he said.

Ryley who now lives in Singapore with his wife, also expressed his thanks to Shontel de Boer, Cllr Rory Macpherson and Dean Macpherson MP for taking the reins of Ward 36 during his absence.
