Greenwood Park SAPS arrests duo, found with false plates and bank cards

The driver and the passenger were also found in possession of a 9mm pistol, eight rounds of ammunition and a toy gun.

TWO men were arrested by the Greenwood Park SAPS Task Team on Wednesday evening for being in possession of false vehicle registration plates as well as a 9mm pistol with ammunition.

The two suspects had earlier tried to evade arrest by officers in a high-speed chase along Chris Hani Road (North Coast Road) at about 8.25pm.

Provincial KZN SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, said the vehicle was seen travelling at a high speed crossing a red traffic light.

“A chase ensued and the team managed to intercept the vehicle. A search was conducted and two false vehicle registration plates as well as bank cards were discovered. The driver and the passenger were searched and found in possession of a 9mm pistol, eight rounds of ammunition and a toy gun.

“The men, aged 35, will be profiled to check if they are linked to robberies committed in the Greenwood Park policing precinct and surrounding areas. They are expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property,” she said.
