Two arrested for uMhlanga robbery

The suspects had assaulted and robbed an uMhlanga man on Solstice Road.

TWO men were arrested on Saturday for their involvement in the robbery of an uMhlanga resident.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the incident occurred at about 6.35pm.

“The uMhlanga resident was walking along Solstice Road when he was confronted by three suspects who attempted to rob him. The victim was assaulted and fended the suspects off however, they were able to get away with his phone.

“The suspects ran into Gateway where one was arrested by Bidvest Protea Coin security officers who reviewed camera footage and gave chase on foot. The victim’s cell phone was recovered and returned to him,” Deokaran said.

Willem Goosen, security manager for the Umhlanga Ridge Management Association, said the second suspect was arrested shortly after the robbery incident.

“After handing over the first suspect to the Durban North SAPS, we reviewed our footage of the incident and found a second suspect was hiding in a vehicle on Palm Boulevard. The third suspect is still at large,” Goosen said.
