RESIDENTS of uMgeni Park have expressed their delight at the news that a new set of traffic lights will be installed on Riverside Road to help deal with traffic congestion in the area.

The newest set of traffic lights will be installed at the Riverside Road, Soofie Saheb Drive intersection.

“The City will be moving the existing infrastructure, such as stormwater pipes and electricity lines to accommodate the traffic lights. Workers will make use of the grass embankment on Soofie Saheb Drive and once the infrastructure has been move, the area will be graded and the lights will be installed.

“I’ve not been given a time frame from the City but I do feel the project will take a few months to complete. The City is very aware of accommodating runners, pedestrians and cyclists who make use of the pavement on the Riverside Road side and will do everything in their power to ensure the space won’t be compromised too much,” she said.

De Boer added the project was a much needed one for the area.

“The feedback from residents who are aware of the project has been positive. They have been calling for traffic lights at this intersection for several years due to the accidents that have occurred here and the congestion on the road. I also feel this will benefit the devotees of the Habibia Soofie Saheb Masjid, especially after prayers on a Friday,” she said.
