Tee-off to help UUST fight crime

In recent years, the UUST has brought down crime rates in the area significantly and funds raised on the day will be used for the running costs of the trust.

THE Upper Umhlanga Security Trust (UUST) has urged the community to get behind their upcoming golf day on Thursday, 27 February at the Mount Edgecombe Golf Course. In recent years, the UUST has brought down crime rates in the area significantly and funds raised on the day will be used for the running costs of the trust.

Jacques Poupard of the trust explained why they needed the support from the community.

“The UUST was started due to a high prevalence of crime many years ago but as crime stats show, through various crime-fighting initiatives, we’ve managed to bring that crime rate down quite significantly. We have 750 homes in the precinct we cover but only a third of homeowners contribute and our annual golf days are a way to help raise funds for the running costs of the UUST. We’ve also invested hundreds of thousands of Rands in installing number plate recognition cameras.

“Besides having a dedicated patrol team, the trust is also involved in various community initiatives, such as cleaning and greening and adopt-a-spot projects to beautify the area. We would like more support from residents in the area and we’re appealing to the community and residents to support the UUST in this fundraising endeavour and encourage you to participate either as a golfer, or as a sponsor. The golf day is open to everyone,” he said.
