Justice for Avoca father shot in botched hijacking

The convicted faces sentencing for a slew of convictions on Monday, 24 February .

ON Monday, 24 February Spamandla Buthelezi, 30, will know his fate after he was found guilty of the murder of Avoca father, Vermana Chetty.  The father of two was shot in front of his children during a botched hijacking on Prince Mhlangane Road in Avoca on 30 May, 2018.

Buthelezi faced a slew of charges said spokesperson for the  National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Natasha Ramkissoon- Kara.

Yesterday he was convicted of attempted robbery as well as robbery with aggravating circumstances and the attempted murder of two people in a shop on the same day of the botched hijacking that ended in blood shed.

The convicted murderer was arrested on 1 June after a shootout with police, for which he faces seven charges of attempted murder, two charges of murder, and one charge for the unlawful possession of a firearm, and the unlawful possession of ammunition.

Buthelezi was also convicted of house breaking with intent to steal in 2016.

“This was linked via fingerprints. This refers to an entirely different offence,” said Ramkissoon- Kara.

The convicted will face sentencing on Monday, 24 February.
