Airport road upgrade to assist emergency vehicles access runways

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

AUTHORITIES at Durban’s King Shaka International Airport are currently upgrading an emergency road connecting the left-hand lane of the M65 (eastbound).

The lane will be closed from Tuesday, 3 February 2020 to 28 February 2020 from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday, read a statement sent out to media on Friday.

The purpose of the upgrade is to  assist emergency vehicles in accessing runways.

“As the road will still be open, road users can expect minimal traffic delays due to the M65 lane closure. Temporary signs will be used to alert drivers and to direct traffic with advance warnings of the lane closure starting at 600m ahead of the closed section,” read the statement.

Motorists are advised that the following alternative routes can be used:

• Northbound traffic: From the airport precinct proceed north on International Trade Avenue and then east on Watson Highway to the N2 freeway.

• Southbound traffic: From airport precinct proceed west on M65, then south on R102 / M41 to N2 freeway – The Temporary Lane Closure will still facilitate vehicles to proceed in an easterly direction toward the N2.
