The 54-year-old suspect was placed under arrest and charged for dealing as well as possession of drugs.

A 54-YEAR-OLD man was arrested by members of the Hawks Durban Serious Organised Crime unit (SANEB) and Crime Intelligence unit (CIG) on Tuesday for dealing and possession of drugs in his home in uMhlanga.

The arrest was made on Zenith Drive, confirmed SAPS.

During the search 15136 heroin tablets, 2.6 kilograms of heroin powder, 2669 mandrax tablets and empty capsules to the street value of approximately R1-million were found.

“Members received information about a suspect who was dealing in drugs and an intensive investigation was conducted. Yesterday members pounced on his premises unexpectedly and a search was conducted.

“Members from Forensic Science Laboratory were immediately invited to process the crime scene. The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest and charged for dealing as well as possession of drugs,” SAPS said in a statement.

He is due to appear in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court later today.

Chairman of the Durban North/uMhlanga CPF chairman, Haden Searles, welcomed the arrest.

“There is a concerted effort being made by Durban North SAPS and the specialised units to stamp out drug dealing in the area. We welcome the arrest of the suspect in this case and from a CPF perspective more of these big haul operations are needed in the area,” he said.

It is understood the suspect has been arrested previously under the same charges.

In August last year police found 1094 heroin capsules among a stash of drugs discovered in a flat in the same road, Zenith Drive.
