Somerset Park residents urged to settle outstanding fees

The association has agreed to an amnesty period where all accrued interest and legal fees will be written off as a gesture of goodwill for outstanding membership fees.

THE Somerset Park Home Owners Association (SPHOA) has urged defaulting homeowners who have not paid their annual membership fees to take advantage of an amnesty period granted by the association.

At the SPHOA’s annual general meeting last year a decision was taken to approve a 10 per cent increase to membership fee by a further R20.

Chairperson of the SPHOA, Deva Moodley, explained the decision to Northglen News in an interview last week.

“At the AGM we agreed that an amnesty period will be granted to all homeowners (until 29 February 2020), where all accrued interest and legal fees will be written off as a gesture of goodwill, provided that all membership fees are paid during this period. In essence all homeowners have until that date to use up the opportunity to pay outstanding membership fees.

“We have more than a 1 000 households in the area and at this point we believe close to 40 per cent of homeowners have not paid their membership fees, in some cases it has been several years. We have had instances where addresses were incorrect and contact details were incomplete and we are in the process of updating our database. We are also appealing to homeowners to contact, Attlee Agency, who manage our properties, and check if their details are correct,” he said.

His thoughts were echoed by SPHOA vice chairperson, Suren Lutchminarayan.

“As an association we’ve made significant strides to uplift and improve the aesthetics in the area. Through our various sub-committees we’ve been able to drastically reduce crime in the area and improve the security infrastructure which now has seen the installation of ANPR cameras (automatic number plate recognition) and CCTV cameras.

“While Somerset Park continues to look better and feel safer month by month, there are a small number of homeowners that seem determined to undermine the efforts of the directors. We want to provide homeowners with the best value for our membership fees. I urge all the homeowners, who have not paid their current and previous membership fees, to please contact Lee-Anne Abraham,” Lutchminarayan pleaded.

To settle outstanding membership fees or update contact details email Lee-Anne on leeannec@attlee.co.za or call 031 561 1371.
