Knife-wielding robber assaults elderly woman in Glenashley home

The woman managed to free herself and alert the authorities about an hour after her attacker fled the scene.

AN elderly woman was tied up and assaulted during a robbery in her Braemar Avenue home at approximately 2pm on Tuesday.

She managed to free herself and alert the authorities about an hour after her attacker fled the scene.

Marshall Security’s Kyle Van Reenen said a male suspect, armed with a knife, allegedly forced his way into the home through a bedroom window.

He, is then, said to have confronted the elderly woman.

“The suspect tied the woman’s hands together using electrical cable, before assaulting her and confining her to a bedroom while he rummaged through the home,” he said.

Van Reenen said the suspect fled in an unknown direction with a number of stolen items, including a cell phone and a laptop computer.

“She was assessed by a Crisis Medical paramedic and refused further treatment, ” he said.

The scene was secured and handed over to the South African Police Services for further investigation and processing.
