Athlone family hide in bedroom as robbers break in

While there were no injuries reported, suspects fled with stolen property.

AN Athlone family confined themselves to their bedroom as three suspects entered their Earlswood Place home on Thursday at approximately 7.40pm.

The suspects are at large, after fleeing the scene when the alarm system kicked in.

Spokesperson for Marshall Security, Kyle Van Reenen said they received the call for help from a resident who said there were armed suspects in his house.

“Multiple Armed Response units were immediately dispatched and on arrival on the scene, it was ascertained that three armed suspects derailed the driveway gate before smashing through the front door to the family home. The family confined themselves to the bedroom area of the home and notified Marshall Security and pressed their panic button,” he said.

While there were no injuries reported, suspects fled with stolen property.

“The suspects were disturbed by the home security system and fled in an awaiting getaway vehicle, making off with an Apple computer,” said Van Reenen.

The scene was secured and handed over to the South African Police Services for further investigation.
